Govt cuts customs slabs to 7 levels, abolishes excise duty on 360 items

KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has restructured the customs tariff system, reducing the number of tariff slabs from 11 to 7 in the national budget for fiscal year 2026/27.

Government Expands Excise Duty Coverage


According to the budget statement, customs duties have been reduced on 273 goods, while excise duty has been fully abolished on 360 items.


The government has also adjusted tariffs on industrial raw materials by reducing one duty slab to ease production costs and support industrial growth.


In a major policy shift, multiple fragmented taxes collected at customs points have been consolidated into a unified “green tax” system, aimed at simplifying the tax structure and improving efficiency in revenue collection.
