KATHMANDU, September 24: Many traders are found to be involved in the market misconducts to receive undue benefits as the festivals are round the corner.
According to the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP), it collected Rs 3.53 million in cash fines from 175 unscrupulous traders in the past two months alone. Over the period, the DoCSCP destroyed expired foods worth Rs 2.39 million.

Hari Pangeni, Director of the DoCSCP, said the Department has deployed 10 inspection teams on a daily basis. “We have expedited market monitoring to check possible anomalies in the market,” he said.
Pangeni said the inspection teams charged on-spot cash fines of Rs 200,000 against a retailer each from Thimi of Bhaktapur and Imadol of Lalitpur on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Likewise, a pharmacy from Lagankhel was slapped with a cash fine of Rs 50,000 on charge of involving in business activities without renewing operating license.
