KATHMANDU, June 19: The Chief whips of the political parties in the current coalition government agreed to hold discussion on budget issue from the mid-June in the Legislature-Parliament for the preparation to bring the budget for the next Fiscal Year 2068/069.

At a meeting held in the Finance Ministry on Sunday, under the initiative of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bharat Mohan Adhikari, they agreed to hold talks with main opposition party and other parties represented at the Legislature-Parliament in this regard, said Bhim Acharya Chief Whip of the CPN (UML).

The budget should be brought in time so that it could not affect the nation´s financial and developmental activities, said Acharya.

The government should take main opposition Nepali Congress and other parties in confidence and prepare the budget by forging consensus among the parties, he added.

Unified CPN (Maoist) and UML are for bringing the budget for the new fiscal year saying the new government has not been formed as per the five-point agreement.

However, the NC is not in favor of bringing the new budget by sidelining the party and is demanding to include in budget preparation process.

The chief whip of the NC did not show up in the meeting though he was invited for the budget discussion.

NC chief whip Laxman Ghimire said the NC will participate in such meeting once the top leaders of the major parties forge consensus over the issue of budget.
