KATHMANDU, April 6: The government has asked the agitating CPN-Maoist-led alliance of 33 parties to withdraw their general strike called for Sunday.

Issuing a press statement on Saturday, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel said the announcement of general strike has drawn serious attention of the government. [break]

While stating that such strikes could seriously vitiate an environment for holding fresh polls, the government has reminded the agitating front and its allies that their problems can be resolved through talks.

While stating that the government is always ready to hold talks, Minister Poudel, who is also the spokesperson for the government, said, “The government requests the agitating alliance to withdraw all protest programs.”

The alliance has been staging protests demanding dissolution of the Chief Justice-led Interim Election Council of Ministers and formation of a new election government under the leadership of political parties. They have also decided to boycott talks with the major parties unless they agree to dissolve the CJ-led government.
