Govt borrows over Rs 325 billion in domestic loans in one year

In fiscal year 2024/25, the government raised Rs 329.99 billion through internal borrowing. In addition, it mobilized Rs 125.40 billion in external loans.

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Facing a resource crunch, the government mobilized Rs 329.99 billion in domestic loans within a single year.



In Fiscal Year 2024/25, the government raised Rs 329.99 billion through internal borrowing. In addition, it mobilized Rs 125.40 billion in external loans.

By mid-July 2025, Nepal’s total outstanding public debt had reached Rs 2.669 trillion. Of this, Rs 1.414 trillion was external debt, while Rs 1.268 trillion was internal debt.


In FY 2024/25, total public debt stood at 43.71 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up from 42.71 percent in the previous year.
