Govt appoints four labor attaches

KATHMANDU, August 21: Ministry of Labor and Transport Management (MoLTM) has appointed four labor attaches in key labor destinations, eight months after the cabinet took a decision to this effect. [break]



According to Mohan Krishna Sapkota, director general of the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), under secretaries Surya Bhandari and Binod Khanal have been appointed as labor attaches for Malaysia and Saudi Arabia respectively. Similarly, section officers Dhruba Koirala and Parbati Aryal have been deputed to Qatar and United Arab Emirates respectively. They have been appointed for a two-year period.



Th government had decided to appoint labor attaches to four labor destinations in the first phase, as per the Foreign Employment Act, which envisages the appointment of labor attaches to countries where number of Nepali workers is more than 5,000, to deal with labor related issues.



These four destinations are home to a significant chunk of Nepali migrant workers and account to almost 90 percent of the total departures of Nepali overseas workers.
