At a programme organized here on Thursday by Education Journalists´ Network (EJON), Minister Poudel claimed that the programme to make Nepal an illiteracy free country would be implemented at any expenses albeit it seems ambitious. [break]
Saying that the Education Ministry has allocated Rs 1 billion for the literacy campaign this year, he said the Ministry is committed to expend additional amount for this if required.
It is shameful for us to have 34 per cent of people still illiterate, he noted, informing that the government has put in place a policy to take ahead the campaign in an aggressive manner.
Director at Informal Education Centre Baburam Poudel said that they have come up with the policy to declare illiteracy free zones as a part of the campaign.
The Centre has set a target to turn 1.6 million illiterates to literate this year, he added.
EJON Chairperson Iswor Raj Dhakal pledged to support to the campaign to end illiteracy in the country.
The international literacy Day and National Education Day is being marcked in Nepal on coming September 8.
