KATHMANDU, Nov 3: The government has started adjusting the curriculum for Grades XI and XII in order to accord them to the Grades IX and X curriculum. The new curriculum is set to prescribe one additional subject each in Grade XI and XII.

The eighth amendment to the Education Act 2016 has provisioned the secondary level education from Grade IX to XII. The Ministry of Education had earlier revised the new curriculum for Grades IX and X encompassing eight subjects, according to the Curriculum Development Center (CDC).

"We are working to develop the curriculum for Grades XI and XII," said Krishna Prasad Kapri, executive director at the CDC. "We have planned to implement the new curriculum in Grade XI from the coming academic session, which begins next July," he added.

According to the CDC, there are eight subjects prescribed in Grade IX and X each. However, only five subjects including compulsory English and Nepali are prescribed in Grade XI and XII each at present. "This does not seem logical," said Kapri. "So the new curriculum will add one subject each in Grades XI and XII," he said. "We have yet to finalize the specific subjects to prescribe in these grades."

Officials said that Grade IX and X will be prescribed with seven subjects each. "The framework of the curriculums will be ready within a week," said Kapri.
