Gosainkunda Mela begins

Gosainkunda is a popular travel destination of Nepal. Especially during Janai Purnima,  a large influx of devotees visit the region. About 7,000 visitors arrived in the region to observe the festivities last year. The number is expected to double this year.

Gosainkunda is a popular travel destination of Nepal. Especially during Janai Purnima,  a large influx of devotees visit the region. About 7,000 visitors arrived in the region to observe the festivities last year. The number is expected to double this year. 


President of Gosainkunda Area Development Committee, Sanjeeb DM, stated that the committee is working on arranging provision for garbage management, health care, transportation, temporary shelters, and route maintenance.

High trade expectation

Throughout the 10-day festivity, trade of Rs one billion 40 million is expected. Trade was limited to Rs 70 million last year. 


Over the years, Gosainkunda has established itself as a popular trekking hub. There are 17 hotels on the route to Gosainkunda. There are four trails that lead to Gosainkunda. They are Dhunche to Gosainkunda, Thadepati to Gosainkunda, Yarsha to Goshainkunda, and Sagarkunda to Gosainkunda. 


Cultural and historical significance

Gosainkunda has a number of cultural and historic importances. It is also blessed with an abundance of natural resources. The long-existing religious belief among the pilgrims lures devotees to the religious site every year. The practice of uttering the name of Gosai Baba while taking dip into the Kunda (lake) is believed to set the body free from sins and make wishes come true.
