KATHMANDU, April 22: Samriddha Gorillas defeated Saipal Academy 56-21 on Saturday to advance into the women’s semifinals as the Group B winner in the ongoing first Manmohan Memorial Open Basketball Tournament.
Gorillas and Saipal had already secured their semifinal berths and this match was just to decide the winner and runner-up of the group.

Gorillas dominated the game winning all four quarters. Gorillas won the first quarter 15-8, the second 17-4, the third quarter 18-4 and the fourth 6-5 to overcome Saipal. Luniva Singh scored the highest 12 for Gorillas. The departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club also reached the semifinals as the runner-up of Group A as it beat NCCS 42-25. Laxmi Chaudhary top-scored 16 for the departmental team.
Army will now take on Gorillas, while Saipal will face Budhanilkantha in the semis. In men’s category, Budhanilkantha will face Army B, while SDC Hounds will face Army ‘A’ in other semis. The semifinals matches will start from Tuesday.
