According to Nepal Golf Association General Secretary Tashi Ghale, Prajapati and Sharma were selected for the tournament on the basis of their world rankings. Prajapati is ranked 2107th in the world and Sharma 2536th. [break]
Bikash Bogati, ranked 2927th, and Tashi Tshering, ranked 4790th, are third and fourth among the Nepali amateurs.
According to Ghale, Sharma and Tshering will be sent to Thailand to participate in the Nomura Cup scheduled for November 14 to 17. Sharma will stay in Thailand for four months after the tournament. "Sharma has earned a scholarship and will get training facilities at Springfield Club in Thailand. Nepal No 1 pro Shiva Ram Shrestha had also once trained at the same club," said Ghale.
Meanwhile, Prajapati and Bogati would be sent to India to participate in the Indian Amateur Tour in the last week of November.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama and NGA General Secretary Ghale bade farewell to the players on Sunday.
Prajapati, Sharma and Bogati are the three young amateur golfers who have been training regularly under the NGA´s ambitious project -- Surya Nepal NGA Youth Golf Development Program. Targeting medals at the 2014 Asian Games to be held in Incheon, South Korea, the NGA had selected six players for the program two years ago and later trimmed it to the final three.
CB Bhandari, coordinator of the Surya Nepal NGA Youth Golf Development Program, was also present on the occasion. "We are trying to provide the best exposure to the players. We sent Sharma to Korea for a three-month training. Prajapati and Bogati trained for two months at Golden Greens Golf Club, India," said Bhandari.
