Gold hits new high of Rs 60,000 per tola

KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Gold was traded at a new high of Rs 60,000 per tola (11.664 grams) in the domestic market on Tuesday, after traders jacked up price by Rs 222 per tola compared to Monday.



Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association (Negosida), which fixes gold and silver prices in Nepal, attributed gold price surge to rise in prices of the precious metal in the international bullion market. [break]



“We were forced to revise gold price upwards in the domestic market due to price rise in international market,” said Diyesh Ratna Shakya, secretary of Negosida.



Gold trading opened at US$ 1,695 per troy ounce in the international market, up from Monday´s closing of $1,691.



Price of silver also increased by Rs 9 per tola and was traded at Rs 1,154 per tola on Monday.
