Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Minister Mahat said that the contact office should give a priority to remit the money of Nepalis residing in Australia through a formal banking channel. He also said that the representative office of the bank should also help to facilitate trading and investment between Australia and Nepal.Stating that Nepal's banking industry has taken a leap following the adoption of the liberal economic policy in 1990s, he said that the opening of the office of a bank in foreign country was the result of the policy of a competitive banking sector introduced by the government.
"With this, Global IME has become the first commercial bank of Nepal to open contact office in Austral"a," the bank said in a statement.
Speaking at the ceremony, Global IME Chairman Chandra Prasad Dhakal said he believes this achievement of the bank is sure to open new avenues in Nepali economy.
Similarly, Global IME's Deputy CEO Janak Sharma expressed gratitude toward the the government as well as the Government of Australia for their continued support in the recent extension project and called for their continued support in the future as well.
Global IME Bank's Founder Suhrid Raj Ghimire, Nepali Ambassador to Australia Rudra Kumar Nepal, Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Shesh Kumar Ghale, Senator of Australian Federal Parliament Shyam Dasyari, and Senior Manager of Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, Jennifer Boulding, among other digintaries, were present in the inauguration ceremony, according to the statement.
