BIRATNAGAR, Oct 8: Central member of Nepali Congress (NC) Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that giving the chief justice a ‘share’ in the Cabinet is a strategy to kill democracy. Speaking with media persons at his residence in Biratnagar on Friday, Dr Koirala said that the NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has initiated a game to kill democracy by giving a share in the cabinet to the chief justice.

Dr Koirala further clarified that the act will end the balance between the executive and the judiciary. “The same president who struggled for 50 years for democracy has started a game to end it,” he said. Stating that giving the chief justice or his candidate a berth in the Cabinet is wrong, Koirala said that the NC is very concerned over the decision.

Furthermore, Koirala also expressed his concerns over the agreement to give the posts of chief ministers of Province 1 and 3 to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist). He said that the decision of giving two ministerial berths to one minister has saddened the members of the NC. “What kind of a party are we if we lose the chief minister of two provinces? Koirala said.

Koirala has been claiming that the post of chief minister of Province 1 would be chosen from the NC. An agreement was reached between the senior leaders of four parties of the ruling coalition on Thursday to give the post of chief minister of Bagmati Province and Province 1 to CPN (Unified Socialist).
