JHAPA, July 21: An eleven-year-old girl was found dead with her throat slit at her maternal uncle's home in Budhabare, Jhapa district Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Tanuja Koirala, the daughter of Chandra Koirala of Shantinagar-1 in Kamitaar, according to the Police Post, Budhabare. Tanuja had come to stay at the house of her maternal uncle, Dillram Prasai, five days ago after completing her grade five exams.
The girl was found dead Wednesday morning.
Her maternal uncle, Dilliram Prasai, had found her dead when he went to wake her up in the morning.
Family members suspect a middle-aged man, who had come to help Prasai in farming, might have murdered the girl.
According to Prasai, the man had come to help him on July 18 and 19 and had taken leave for two days on Tuesday afternoon. “He knew our house well and must have slipped in from the back door of the room my nieces were sleeping in,” Prasai said.
Meanwhile, the police suspect that the girl might have been murdered after rape.
The suspect, who earns his living as a farmhand, usually is seen in an inebriated state, locals said.
“It was raining heavily on Tuesday night,” Prasai said. “We may not have heard any noise because of the rain.”
The police said they have launched an investigation into the case.
