The statement mentions that Nepalmed has been supporting the healthcare system in Nepal for the last 25 years. Arne and Silke Drews have been associated with this humanitarian association since the very beginning – Arne Drews as the chairman of the organization ever since and Silke Drews undertaking the fundraising and bookkeeping responsibilities.

The statement further elaborated that only a small section of the population in Nepal has access to affordable medical service. Therefore, Nepalmed has been actively involved in supporting healthcare facilities, including rural hospitals and primary health care centres far away from major cities. In addition, Nepalmed also supports the construction of roads to the hospitals, purchase of vehicles for medical purposes and construction of staff accommodation facilities. Regular training and further education of local medical staff is also a crucial part of healthcare improvement initiatives in Nepal.

The upcoming projects of Nepalmed include the establishment of a blood transfusion unit at Kirtipur Hospital, support for a program for detection and treatment of latent tuberculosis in Western part of Nepal and financial support for a screening program for breast cancer.
