German actress visits communities in Makwanpur

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: German actress of Russian birth and Ambassador for Plan International Germany, Emilia Schüele recently visited communities in Makwanpur district to understand the lives of Nepali girls and their situation.

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: German actress of Russian birth and Ambassador for Plan International Germany, Emilia Schüele recently visited communities in Makwanpur district to understand the lives of Nepali girls and their situation. 


The 25-year-old met her sponsor child Sonisha and inquired about her study, daily life and her future plans in Makwanpur, a press statement released by Plan International Nepal said. She has promised to extend her support to Sonisha and her community till she is 18 years of age, the statement added. Emilia also visited a women’s cooperative supported by Plan International and interacted with young women about their achievements as well as challenges.

The press release further added that she visited Janak Secondary School of Ambhanjyang in Makwanpur to interact with students, teacher, and the school management committee. She also observed a cultural show at the school premises.


During her visit, she also went to observe Shanti Bahira School at Gauritar in Makwnapur, a disable-friendly school, which was built after the earthquake with support from Plan International where she interacted with children with disabilities. 


As part of visiting the communities, she also went to the construction sites at Durga Basic School in Tasar and visited to earthquake-displaced families at Golmod of the district to witness their situation. 


The actress was accompanied by a team of five, including a photographer and a journalist. Communications Manager of Plan International Nepal Shreeram KC, who had accompanied the actress said, "The visit was hosted to make her aware about the life and situation of Nepali children and their communities after the quake, so that Emilia can articulate her observation and educate her fans in Germany."
