TAPLEJUNG, Jan 9: Nepali Congress (NC) Joint General-Secretary Bhisma Raj Angdembe has termed the general conventions of the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) as mere rituals. Stating that the two parties could not practice internal democracy in their general conventions, Angdembe said that their conventions were just rituals created out of the leader's pockets.
Talking to media persons in his home district in Taplejung on Monday, Angdembe claimed the General Convention of NC elected a mix of both old and new generations to the party’s central office-bearers’ body.

In a separate context, Angdembe accused the UML of obstructing parliament with the wrong intention of justifying its unconstitutional move to dissolve parliament. He also urged the UML to stop obstruction in parliament and focus on discussions to resolve the common issues of the ordinary people.
Stating that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had held a meeting with the leader of the main opposition party at his official residence to urge them to stop the obstruction in parliament, he said that the government is in favor of smooth functioning of parliament at the earliest.
