The probe panel, led by former justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, was constituted on October 22 with a three-month mandate to investigate incidents that occurred on September 9 and 10 during the Gen Z protests.

Probe commission chair Karki said the panel requires more time to complete its work and has formally sought a one-month extension from the prime minister. He added that Prime Minister Karki has indicated that the tenure will be extended.

The probe commission is preparing to record statements from senior political leaders, including former prime ministers and former home ministers, starting next week. Statements from senior security and administrative officials have already been recorded, according to the probe commission.
