Garbage disposal at Okharpauwa to resume Sunday

KATHMANDU, Jan 17:  Agitating locals at Chhatredeurali, Dhading district,  have agreed to allow Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to dispose garbage in Okharpauwa landfill site starting Sunday. The locals made the agreement after KMC agreed to meet their demands during a dialogue held between the two parties at KMC office, Bagdarbar, on Saturday. The obstruction caused by locals had made KMC unable to dispose garbage colleged in capital´s streets for the last 12 days.

Rabin Man Shakya, cheif of Environment Department at KMC, said the locals made the agreement to allow disposing garbage after 12-member all-party committee was formed to address their demands. "We have said that we are positive toward their demands and will do our best to meet them," said Shakya. Among others, the locals have asked the government to construct black-topped road leading to the landfill sites through their village, build hospital and provide electricity supply in the village.
