SAPTARI, June 21: The collection of garbage at Rajbiraj municipality has been resumed after three days with the discussion and agreement between the workers and administration.
Municipality Mayor Shambhu Prasad Yadav, Administrative Chief Shyam Prasad Singh and trade union leaders in the district, Kedar Dev and Ajay Kumar Mehatar held discussion over the demands of workers.
Waling Municipality: Making the best out of waste
The workers had halted the sanitation activities as garbage collection in the municipality, posing demands as of incentives and materials to be used while collecting trashes. Mayor Yadav, after assuring the fulfillment of workers' demands, believed that they would return to regular work to ensure cleanliness in the municipality.
As per the agreement the municipality will write to every ward offices urging to provide mask, gloves, and boots for the workers. Mayor Yadav also agreed to initiate process to ensure incentives to the workers as per Labour Act 2074 and Social Security Act 2074. Chairman of All Nepal Sanitation Workers' Association in the district, Raj Kumar Mehatar, also informed that the workers were ready to return to regular work after Mayor agreed to pay heed to their demands.
Even a memorandum will be submitted to the Mayor coming Sunday for the implementation of agreement, he added. For three days, market area, intersections of roads and public places were littered with garbage which emanated stink, causing sheer annoyance and inconvenience to the general public.
