POKHARA, July 8: Today’s meeting of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly has been postponed due to UML's obstruction. The meeting to discuss the budget was blocked after the main opposition UML tried to obstruct the discussion on budget, expressing dissatisfaction.

The UML blocked the meeting saying that the mid-term budget did not include expenditure structure, mentioned more internal debt than specified and did not provide accurate information about the infrastructure development budget. As soon as the meeting started, UML province assembly members rose from their seats in protest.

Chief whip of the UML, Indralal Sapkota said that the budget was brought by the provincial government contrary to the constitution, law and values. Sapkota alleged that the provincial government had mentioned in the budget that it would borrow more than the 12 percent limit set by the National Natural Resources Finance Commission.

According to him, it is mentioned in the budget that about Rs 280 million more will be borrowed than specified. He said that he had asked where to get the loan from and what plan to cut. Gandaki Economic Affairs Minister Ramji Prasad Baral had unveiled a budget of Rs 35.90 billion.
