Games cost Rs 167m

KATHMANDU, May 22: National Sports Council (NSC) on Friday made public the incomes and expenditures of the Fifth National Games held from April 6-12.



Organizing a press meet, NSC member-secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha said the council spent less amount than the estimated one. The council had estimated the costs of the games to remain at Rs 250 million, but it spent only Rs 167 million.



Shrestha also briefed on the expenses incurred under several headings. Lodging and food costs amounted to about Rs 120 million, while Rs 141 million was spent on travel and pocket allowances for the participants.



“The excess money will be used to build a central level academy at Gauritar, where the council already owns 250 ropanis of land,” Shrestha said. He also informed about the council´s initiatives to repair covered halls in several districts. Shrestha cited time constraints for not being able to provide quality lodging, meal and dresses to the participants in the national games.
