KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar said on Saturday that he is ready to quit the post of deputy prime minister if the Maoists decide to join the coalition government. [break]

Gachchhadar, who also holds the portfolio of Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, said all should be prepared for some sacrifice as the new constitution is not possible without the participation of the Maoists in the government.

Gachchhadar said this while inaugurating the first general convention of Nepal Truck and Tanker Entrepreneurs´ Federation in Kathmandu.

He claimed that Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had later admitted that his party´s decision to sack army chief Rookmangud Katawal was an ´immature´ decision. “It was me who toppled the government after the Maoists began unnecessary debate on the army,” he said.

Stating that he had suggested Dahal not to take any decision on the army chief , Gachchhadar said Prime Minister Dahal called him the next day after the dismissal of Katawal for a meeting. “I have realized that your suggestion was correct,” he quoted Dahal as saying during the meeting. “We happened to take immature decision.”

He alleged that Maoist Chairman Dahal failed to take up the historic responsibility of resolving national crisis even as he was given that opportunity.
