KATHMANDU, Aug 30: A man accused of committing a murder 14 years ago in Jhapa has been arrested in Kathmandu.
Sujan Bega, originally from Panchthar and residing in Damak Municipality-10, Jhapa, was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police in Kirtipur on Thursday.
Fugitive guilty of murder and robbery arrested after five years
On May 12, 2010, Khagendra Rai was brutally beaten behind the Pathibhara Cinema Hall in Damak-10, Jhapa. The police reported that Sujan Bega and others were involved in the incident.
Rai, who was injured in the beating, died on June 28 of the same year during treatment at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.
The case related to the incident reached the Supreme Court (SC), which gave its final verdict on April 15, 2015, sentencing Bega to life imprisonment.
The CIB team arrested Bega, who had been absconding since the incident, after receiving information that he was hiding in Kirtipur on Thursday. SP Hobindra Bogati, who is also the spokesperson for CIB, said that Bega was arrested and handed over to the Lalitpur District Court as per the court’s order.
