KHOTANG, Dec 30: The number of women giving birth at health centers has increased after Ainselukharka Rural Municipality started providing free ambulance service to pregnant women in the region.
According to Bishwanath Niraula, chairperson of the rural municipality, the number of births at health centers has increased as the rural municipality is taking pregnant women to the health centers through ambulance for free. The pregnant women are also brought back to their home after child delivery, he said.
If pregnant women face any complication while giving birth at the local health posts or birthing centers, they are taken to the primary health center via ambulance.
The data compiled by the rural municipality shows that 51 pregnant women benefitted from the service in the current fiscal year. There are birthing centers in Makpa, Rakhabandel, and Jyamire in the rural municipality.
The rural municipality started the service from August 2017 with the objective of protecting the lives of both pregnant women and newborns.
Niraula added that the number of women giving birth at their homes has been decreasing after launch of the campaign.
