KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The seventh meeting of the Joint Commission (JC) of Foreign Ministers of Nepal and India has concluded with the two countries signing four different agreements. 

The meeting, co-chaired by Foreign Minister NP Saud and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, took place at Hotel Yak and Yeti in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Amrit Bahadur Rai stated that discussions during the JC meeting covered economic relations, connectivity, trade and transport, energy and water resources, education, culture, and political issues between Nepal and India. Various thematic areas were explored to further enhance the bilateral ties.

Following the Nepal-India JC meeting, four agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries. In the presence of the foreign ministers of both nations, relevant officials signed these agreements and memorandums of understanding.

The agreements and MoUs include a long-term power trade agreement to purchase 10,000 megawatts of electricity over 10 years, support for community development projects, the launch of a satellite made by Nepal and support for the development of renewable energy in Nepal.

The two countries exchange agreements on Implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects, Long Term Power Trade Cooperation in Renewable Energy Development Munal Satellite and Handover of 5th tranche of post-Jajarkot earthquake relief supply. The two foreign ministers also jointly inaugurated three cross-border transmission lines during the JC.
