SAPTARI, Oct 30 : Former lawmakers of Saptari district are facing a challenge reaching out to the voters as the latter are disappointed with them. And frequent splits in the Madhesi parties have added to their challenge.

Mahesh Prasad Yadav, who won in the last Constituent Assembly (CA) election with 10,302 votes, is contesting the in same constituency from the Tarai Madhes Sadbhwana Party-Nepal (TMSP-N). Yadav contested the previous poll on a Sadbhwana Party (SP) ticket. [break]

Notedly, Yadav switched sides thrice, joining the Anil Jha-led Federal Sadbhawana Party, then the Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Nepal (MPRF-N) and, again, TMSP-N.

Similarly, MPRF-N candidate Renu Yadav, who won in the previous poll, is contesting the same contiuency number 4 and from the same party. She had won with a huge margin of 5,000 votes.

Nepali Congress candidate Dinesh Kumar Yadav, UML´s Tara Kant Chaudhary and SP´s Jismul Khan are Yadav´s major contenders. Voters have said that they are disappointed with Yadav as she could not live up to her words. “She could not deliver on her promises. We are disappointed with her,” they said.

Speaking to Republica, Yadav said, “The voters are raising several questions regarding the failure of the CA.” She added that voters are disappointed by the lack of development work in the district.

“However, my victory is certain as the voters will not vote for any non-Madhesi party,” claimed Yadav.

Likewise, former lawmaker Mrigendra Kumar Singh Yadav, who had won in the last election from constituency number 6 on a MPRF-N ticket, is now in the race, representing Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar-led MPRF-D.

“He [Yadav] did nothing for us while he was agriculture minister,” said local farmers. Voters said Yadav failed to address the issues of the district.

Challenges have been added for Yadav as his own brother, Anirud Prasad Singh Yadav, is one of his contenders, representing MPRF-N.

Hem Raj Tated, who was elected from constituency number 1 representing MPRF-N, is contesting the same constituency, representing MPRF-D this time. Voters are indifferent to Tated also.

In the previous poll, candidates of the Madhesi parties had won four seats. The number of constituencies in the district stands at 6. Jay Prakash Gupta and Sadrul Miyan Haque, who had contested the poll as independents, met with victory in constituency number 2 and 5 repectively. Gupta is not in the race this time while Haque is no more.

Ex-lawmakers contesting from the constituencies of the district are worried as the voters are a disappointment lot.
