Former ward chairman arrested for recommending Indian nationals for citizenship

KAPILVASTU, Nov 3: Fateh Mohammad Muslim, former ward chairman of Mayadevi Rural Municipality-4 of Kapilvastu, has been arrested on the charge of recommending non-Nepalis for citizenship.

He was arrested on the charge of recommending Indian nationals for citizenship as Nepalis. Fateh Mohammad recommended Indian citizen Mohammad Amir Fakir for citizenship. On January 26, 2022, Fakir took Nepali citizenship by keeping his permanent address as Mayadevi Rural Municipality-4, Pipra.

On the basis of the same citizenship, Fakir immediately received a Nepali passport under the emergency service. Chief District Officer Dharmendu Kumar Mishra said that the immigration office detained him three weeks ago at the Tribhuvan International Airport while he was going to Malaysia for foreign employment. The immigration department took him into custody and wrote to the district administration office for citizenship investigation.

CDO Mishra had written to the police to investigate his citizenship. Nepal Police Sub Inspector Min Bahadur Ghale said that the ward chairman was arrested for recommending Indian nationals on false information. He said that the Kapilvastu court extended the deadline of three days for the investigation of the former ward chairman, Fateh Mohammad Muslim, for crimes related to Nepali citizenship.

The arrested former ward chairman Fateh Mohammad had won the election to the ward chairman of Mayadevi Rural Municipality ward number 4 in the local elections of 2074 BS. He was a candidate for ward chairman from CPN (Unified Socialist) in the local elections in 2079 BS but was defeated in the elections.
