KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Amid growing criticism from party leaders over former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun's return to active politics, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has clarified that he did not request Pun to take on an active role in the party.
The clarification of Chairman Dahal comes in the wake of a section of party leaders alleging that Dahal is planning to bring Pun back to active politics in order to bolster his position within the party.

Addressing the CC meeting on Monday and Tuesday, several leaders expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that allowing the former vice president to play an active role in the party undermines the dignity of his previous position. In response, Dahal asserted that Pun's participation was entirely voluntary.
Leaders within the Maoist Center have also intensified debates about the appropriateness of involving senior political figures in active party roles post-retirement. "I did not ask Pasangji [Nand Kishore Pun] to join [the party]. He expressed his desire to take on an active role after retirement," Dahal explained.
While Pun sat in the vice-presidential chair during the meeting, Dahal clarified that his presence was more symbolic and based on Pun's own enthusiasm. "I only extended an invitation to him," Dahal said.
Reiterating his stance, Dahal emphasized that Pun's decision to become active in the party stems from his personal commitment to the revolution. "I am a soldier of the revolution. Why shouldn't I be allowed to carry it forward?" he quoted Pun as saying.
Dahal assured that Pun's role in the party would be determined carefully to avoid internal or external confusion. "We will allocate responsibilities based on his intentions and find a suitable position that ensures clarity and harmony," he added.
