Former Speaker Mahara admitted to hospital

KATHMANDU, Oct 10: Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara who was arrested five days ago after being accused of raping an employee at the Federal Parliament has been admitted to hospital on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Oct 10: Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara who was arrested five days ago after being accused of raping an employee at the Federal Parliament has been admitted to hospital on Thursday.


Mahara, who had been taken into custody at Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Durbar on October 6, has now been admitted to Norvic Hospital after he complained of respiratory problems. He has been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes for long.


As soon as the Kathmandu District Court allowed the police administration to arrest Mahara over rape allegation, the police arrested him from his official residence at Baluwatar.

Roshani Shahi, an employee at the Federal Parliament Secretariat last week on Friday registered an FIR against Mahara at Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor accusing him of sexually harassing her.


Following her complaint, police moved the court to get permission for the arrest of Mahara who had stepped down from the post of speaker amid allegations last week.
