KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Former Prime Minister Dr Tulsi Giri passed away on Tuesday. He was 93. Giri breathed his last at Budhanilkantha-based residence in the capital, family sources said.
Giri had been suffering from liver cancer for a long time. He was discharged from Medicity hospital after treatment on Saturday. Giri had a long political career. He served as the first prime minister of Nepal when the then King Mahendra imposed the party-less Panchayat political system back in 1960.

Giri served as the vice chair of the council of ministers under the direct regime of Former King Gyanendra in 2005. He was born in Siraha in 1926. He studied at the Suri Vidyasagar College, Calcutta in India.
He had resigned as Silver Jubilee Celebration Committee of Rastriya Panchayat in 1986 and moved to Sri Lanka where he stayed for two years and then finally settled in Bangalore, India till 2005.
