Former PM Giri cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat

KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Former Prime Minister Dr Tulsi Guri has been cremated through electric crematorium at Pashupati Aryaghat on Wednesday.

Giri had passed away at his own Budhanilkantha-based residence on Tuesday morning. He was 93. He had been suffering from liver-cancer for a long time.

He served as the first prime minister of Nepal when the then King Mahendra imposed the party-less Panchayat political system back in 1960.

Giri served as the vice chair of the council of ministers under the direct regime of Former King Gyanendra in 2005. He was born in Siraha in 1926. He studied at the Suri Vidyasagar College, Calcutta in India.

Giri is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
