Former PM Bhattarai discharged

KATHMANDU, April 29: Former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai returned home on Wednesday afternoon after nine-day treatment at the Norvic International Hospital, Thapathali.



The 87-year-old founding leader of the Nepali Congress was discharged at 12 noon in a stable condition."His heart, lungs and kidney functions are better now with supportive medicines. He is also able to breathe better and is eating normally," cardiologist Dr Bharat Rawat, who along with chest specialist Dr Ramesh Chokhani and others looked after Bhattarai´s treatment, said.

Bhattarai has been advised to avoid too much of salt and take medicines regularly. "He also has diabetes and has been asked not to take sugar as well," Dr Rawat added. He has been asked to return for a follow-up after two weeks.



Bhattarai was admitted to the hospital on April 19 with bodily swelling and difficulty in breathing, and was found to have weakened kidneys as well. He is also suffering from heart and lungs problems. Bhattarai had suffered from a stroke more than 20 years ago.
