Former lawmaker and Pappu Construction owner Hari Narayan Rauniyar arrested

KATHMANDU, June 30: Hari Narayan Rauniyar, a prominent construction businessman and former lawmaker, has been apprehended by the authorities. 


A police team deployed by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested him from Kathmandu on Friday. While the police have not disclosed the specific reason behind his arrest, sources claimed that it is related to a fraud case.

Earlier, Rauniyar faced corruption charges and was subsequently suspended from parliament in October 2018. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against him and 12 others for financial irregularities and negligence in the construction of Babai River bridge. 


The bridge collapsed during its construction in 2017. Rauniyar, the proprietor of Pappu Construction, was responsible for building the bridge under a government contract.


Rauniyar previously served as a lawmaker representing the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal.
