KATHMANDU, March 10: The freed Kamlaris studying in schools in Dang have been hit hard due to the delay by the authorities in providing them scholarship funds, a government monitoring team has found.

The monitoring team deployed from the Ministry of Education (MoE) has directed the District Education Office, Dang, to provide the Kamlaris the annual scholarship amount in lump sum without delay. The team found that the girls were being paid their monthly allowances only after six months every academic session so they were unable to benefit from various opportunities in the lack of funds.

“This situation of the gap between the government policy and services provided can be ended through initiatives at the local level,” states the report of the MoE's Monitoring and Implementation Section published after the field visit. Joint Secretary Surya Prasad Gautam leads the MoE's Monitoring Section and coordinates with the Department of Education (DoE) for its implementation.
