BIRATNAGAR, March 28: Stakeholders have insisted on the need for the concerned agencies to pay special attention on averting forest fire. 

Forest resource as natural heritage offers much benefits to human life so its proper care and conservation is a must, stakeholders stressed. 

Morang district has a total of 55,500 hectares of forest land, including private, public and partnership which is 29.9 percent of the district geography. 

A weeklong public awareness on forest fire control, organised by the Division Forest Office, with a slogan of 'Control forest fire, protect forest' concluded here on Wednesday. 

The event was organised to encourage the vigilance on part of the concerned sides towards preventing forest fire. 

On the occasion, Bishal Ghimire, Chief of Division Forest Office, Morang, said it was their duty to protect forest as the most essential resources required for human life and livelihood. 

Likewise, Prakash Poudel, Chairperson of Pathari Community Forest Users Committee, suggested to apply modern technology and instruments in addition to indigenous knowledge to bring forest fire under control. 

Also speaking on the occasion, Amar Sangraula, Chair of Grameen Sudhar Community Forest, journalist Gopal Kafle, Bhimraj Adhikari, Mohan Bhattarai and Bhaktasher Limbu also called for cooperation from all sides for the protection and expansion of forest area.  RSS
