JAJARKOT, July 18: Locals in the district have been hit-hard as the government has not supplied the announced quota of grant rice to the villages.

The rice hasn’t reached the Dasera and Ghogi depot of the district till now. This year, the District Food Security Committee had recommended the government to declare the district as a food scarcity-hit district.

According to Nepal Food Corporation (NFC), Jajarkot’s Chief Dharma Bahadur Basnet, the rice contractor failed to supply the rice to the depots.
After the regular quota of the rice failed to reach, Mukti Suppliers has been supplying the rice, Basnet said.

Despite not being able to supply the rice throughout the year, the supplier Bikendra Construction and Bikendra Suppliers is yet to face action.
The concerned bodies have remained mum over the negligence of the NFC and contractor that has saw the people not getting the rice on time.

According to the NFC Jajarkot’s Office, only 86.50 quintals of rice out of 2,000 quintals have reached Ghogi and Dasera.

But, the NFC Nepaljung claimed that they have sent 280 quintals of rice to Ghogi and 170 quintals to Dasera.

Locals have urged the concerned bodies to be more attentive over a likely food scarcity due disparity between demands and supplies.

They have accused the local administration of staying silent despite the negligence of the rice contractor.

Chief District Office (CDO) Janardan Gautam said that they are taking initiation to supply the rice as per the demand.

He also added that attempts have been made to stock the food to tackle a likely food shortage.
