A committee headed by chief secretary Madhav Ghimire had classified of state records in November, the details of which were not made public.[break]
“FNJ is seriously concerned over the information classification that would render the Right to Information Act ineffective,” FNJ general secretary Om Sharma said in a statement.
“This is a matter of shame for the nation and democracy that the government has taken an initiative to render the most important act for citizen empowerment ineffective,” the FNJ statement added.
FNJ, the umbrella organization of 8,000 journalists in the country, added that the classification decision could only be taken to weaken civil rights and promote opaque regime.
“We urge the Prime Minister to revoke the decision and respect people’s right to information,” FNJ release added. “Otherwise, FNJ will launch an agitation against it and move to court against the decision.”
