KATHMANDU, Oct 21: The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has scheduled a new date for holding elections for its executive members for November 26-27.

According to the timetable announced by FNCCI on Wednesday, the 54th AGM and election will be held on November 26-27. Three venues in Kathmandu—FNCCI head office in Teku, Karki Banquet in Babarmahal and Nepal Academy in Kamaladi—have been designated for conducting the election of the executive members.

The FNCCI has stated that the programs will be conducted by observing safety protocols enforced by the government.

FNCCI members can file their candidacy from Wednesday. The first lists of nominees will be published on November 19. The final lists of the candidates will be published on November 23.

The AGM and elections had originally been scheduled for April 10 and 11 which was postponed until May 20 and 21, only to be deferred until the second week of August. The date was again deferred citing the government’s decision to prohibit mass meetings and assemblies as part of containment measures to combat COVID-19.

With the FNCCI fixing the schedule, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the current vice president representing Associate members, has filed his candidacy for the post of senior vice president. Dhakal has been backed by his panel members, Ram Chandra Sanghai, Umesh Lal Shrestha and Guna Nidhi Tiwari, who also have registered their nominations at the FNCCI

Another vice president Kishore Kumar Pradhan has also announced to contest for the post of senior vice president.

At the FNCCI, the senior vice-presidential race is a high-stake affair as the winner will automatically become the FNCCI president after three years.
