Presenting its suggestion on draft of the constitution, the apex body of Nepal private sector said they are not satisfied with the inclusion of 'socialism-oriented economy' in preamble, and directives and principles of the preliminary draft. FNCCI has said private sector was worried that the government could control all services and that there won't be any space for the private sector.FNCCI President Pashupati Murarka handed over the private sector's suggestion on the draft constitution to Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subash Chandra Nembang on Monday.
FNCCI has made suggestions on several issues related to the economy, private sector, right to do business, and encouraging both domestic and foreign investments. It has suggested that the economy should be based on public-private-partnership" "The cooperative is itself a part of private sector. Hence there should be two pillars in the economy -- public and private.
After submitting suggestions on the draft constitution, Murarka said they want to add 'democratic' ahead of 'socialism-oriented economy' so that the private sector can have their say in the future.
In its suggestions, FNCCI has said that it believes in open market economy and progress. It has also demanded provisions for discouraging protests and strikes that affect industrial production and economy, and ensuring industrial security.
Receiving the suggestions, Nembang said that the suggestions will be handed over to the Constitution-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the CA. Nembang also hoped that the country will enter into the phase of economic transformation once the constitution is promulgated by mid-August.
