Addressing a talk program-Rebuilding Nepal: Post Earthquake Foreign Policy and Economic Diplomacy in the Changed Context-organized by Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) in the capital on Friday, Pandey said the traditional way of handling economic diplomacy will be hardly helpful in the changed context in Nepal. "The diplomacy now requires being robust, scrupulously creative, functional and contributive towards achieving long-term development goals," he said.Minister Pandey informed that Nepal is coming up with country-specific strategies to promote the expors. "...such strategies for nine countries have already been prepared and the strategies for other countries will be prepared in close consultation the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries," he said.
Outgoing Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal had shared his experience as the country's top bureaucrat in the aftermath of the recent earthquakes. He said Nepal had to face a number of problems as it did not have enough knowledge and expertise to deal with post-disaster situations.
IFA's Executive Director Dr Rishi Raj Adhikari Nepal said Nepal in the post-earthquake situation needs to tread carefully with smart diplomacy promoting and protecting Nepal interests with a focus on the agenda of rebuilding Nepal. "In this context, there is a necessity to allocate adequate resources with well-trained diplomats here and abroad so that Nepal can efficiently advocate for its economic agendas in the international arena through proper negotiations...," he said.
Former Foreign Secretary Madhu Raman Acharya and Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank Min Bahadur Shrestha had presented a separate paper in the substantive session on the themes of Post Earthquake Economic Diplomacy and Post Earthquake Nepal's Foreign Policy.
