KATHMANDU, Aug 16: A massive flood and landslide triggered by an avalanche in Thame village of Solukhumbu district on Friday swept away at least twelve houses and a school building.


Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Prasad Ghimire from the District Police Office, Solukhumbu confirmed the extent of the damage.

"Twelve houses, one clinic, and one basic school have been swept away. Seven additional houses are at risk, and the risk of landslides has increased as the riverbank continues to erode,” he said.


DSP Ghimire said that they received information about the avalanche in Thame village at around 13:45 PM on Friday afternoon. Following the information, a rescue team from the Nepalese Army was immediately mobilized, successfully rescuing six people from the affected area. It is estimated that 15 to 20 houses were buried in the landslide. However, no information regarding human casualties has been received so far.
