Five more cold wave deaths in Saptari, Siraha

LAHAN, Jan 6: With five more deaths on Wednesday, the cold wave death toll in Saptari and Siraha districts in the past two weeks has reached 18.



In Saptari, Rameshwar Dev, 71, of Sitapur-9; Sugawati Yadav, 63, of Gobargada-9 and Lakhiya Devi Sadaya, 73, of Gobargada froze to death on Wednesday.



According to District Police Office, a total of 13 people have died of cold in Saptari.



In Siraha, Phaguni Ram, 60, of Lahan-1, and Santosh Giri, 40, of Asanpur-6, died of hypothermia on Wednesday. Before this, three people had died of cold in Siraha.



On Sunday, Anita Kumari Mahata, 13, of Chandralalpur-6, and two residents of Bheriya and Bhaurkataiya respectively died of cold.



The poor have been hit hard by the cold wave, as they cannot afford warm clothes and sleep on cold floor.
