The deceased have been identified as Bhim Kumari Shris, 46, Tam Bahadur Sunar, 48, Rohit Marasini, 55, Karna Bahadur Chundara, 36, all of them from Resunga Municipality; and a three-year-old girl Sijan Pariyar of Arlangkot VDC. Pariyar died on the spot while the rest of others breathed their last while being taken to Tamghas.Among the injured, seven have been rushed to Palpa for treatment as their conditions were more severe. The remaining others are undergoing treatment in Tamghas. Some of them have already returned home after receiving treatment.
The bus was en route to Tamghas of the district from Butwal, Rupandehi district. The bus was over-speeding and the driver refused to slow down despite repeated requests from the passengers to do so, said Kamal Panthi, 19, a survivor.
"The accident happened because the bus was over-speeding and the driver couldn't control the bus," said Panthi, who also sustained injury in the incident.
DSP Rabindra Regmi said the police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the mishap. "Some say the bus was over-speeding. But it is yet to be confirmed," he said, adding that the investigation into the incident is underway.
