Five including groom's father killed as jeep carrying wedding procession falls off cliff

PALPA, April 30: Five people were killed when a jeep carrying a wedding procession veered off a cliff in Nisdi Rural Municipality-7 of Palpa on Monday.

PALPA, April 30: Five people were killed when a jeep carrying a wedding procession veered off a cliff in Nisdi Rural Municipality-7 of Palpa on Monday. One of the passengers travelling in the ill-fated jeep had a narrow escape. He survived after jumping off the moving vehicle.


The jeep with registration number Lu 1 Ja 1941, which was heading toward Bhirpani from Nisdi-7, Huwas met with the accident at Charghare at around 5:30 pm.

Fifty-seven-year-old Santa Bahadur Saru, the father of the groom, died in the fatal accident. Similarly, other deceased have been identified as Khadga Bahadur Somai, 46, Devi Lal Khangaha, 56, of Charghare; Lal Bahadur Saru of Huwas and the driver of the jeep Buddhi Lal Soti, 26, of Nisdi-5, according to police.


Rim Bahadur Gharti who was on board the jeep managed to jump off the moving vehicle. Police Inspector Bishwamani Pokharel of Palpa informed Republica that the vehicle fell 250 meters below the road. As per the preliminary investigation of police, high speed has been speculated as the major reason behind the accident.


According to a local Chetra Bahadur Nepali, an eyewitness, one person jumped off the jeep just a few seconds before it bumped into an electricity pole and fell off the road.


Gharti said that he had repeatedly urged the driver to slow down but he did not pay heed. The jeep was returning to Huwas after dropping the bride and the groom at the bride's home.
