Five arrested for stealing and selling security personnel’s pistol during ‘Gen Z’ protests

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Police have arrested five individuals from various parts of Kathmandu for stealing and attempting to sell a pistol belonging to security personnel during the recent ‘Gen Z’ protests.



The arrested include Krishna Gurung, 21, from Dhunibeshi Rural Municipality, Dhading; Rajan Deula, 25, from Kathmandu Metropolitan City–15; Akbar Khan, 24, from Sitamani, India; Sumin Shakya, 26, from Kathmandu’s Bijeshwari; and Prabhat Malla, 38, from Kathmandu’s New Baneshwor.

Police recovered one pistol, a magazine and 15 rounds of ammunition from the suspects. According to SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Krishna Gurung was involved in the theft, while the others were engaged in the sale of the weapon. Malla was reportedly the intended buyer.


The Kathmandu District Court has authorized six days of investigation against the suspects under charges of illegal possession and trafficking of firearms. Police have stated that the investigation will continue within this period.
