KATHMANDU, Sept 14: The first-round interrogation of the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana has concluded. 


In the course of the interrogation on the fifth day on Tuesday, the Impeachment Recommendation Committee recorded Rana's responses to the questions from number 35 to 43. 


In response, the suspended CJ said the verdict on the case of parliament dissolution was made the basis against him which he said was only ideological. "There was an attempt to widen division between justices and the chief justice by presuming the verdict as a  result of some political cases", he said, adding that, "Impeachment motion was registered taking up the issue of verdict on parliament dissolution. It was an ideological issue."

He repeatedly noted that the impeachment motion was registered against him without any basis. 


Secretary of the Impeachment Recommendation Committee Laxman Prasad Gautam said, "The committee meeting will take place at 9:00 AM on Wednesday. Probing questions were prepared; necessary evidence was collected and preparation was made to summon concerned individuals for grilling," the committee sources said. 


Committee's member Min Bahadur Biswokarma said, "Tenure of the parliament was also expiring soon. We have to complete the task given and submit the report within the deadline of September 14. 


A total of 98 parliamentarians had registered an impeachment motion against Rana on February 13.
