KATHMANDU, March 16: A sudden breaking out of fire caused heavy damage inside Bagalamukhi Temple, one of the major shrines in Laliputpur district. The temple caught fire at midnight Sunday.

"The fire was doused by police and locals after we were informed about the incident at around 12:15 am on Monday," Superintendent of Police Kedar Man Singh Bhandari, chief of District Police Office, Lalitpur told myrepublica.com.

The fire likely spread after an electrical short-circuit sparked when power supply resumed following hours of power cut in the areas, according to SP Bhandari.

He said that there were about 300 oil-fed lamps on both sides of the place where priests worship inside the temple. All the oil lamps, some cupboards among other goods were gutted by fire.

Bhandari said police personnel are currently preparing a preliminary report on the spot.
