Property worth Rs 20 million was damaged in the fire, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mahendra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office (DPO), Jomsom.
The fire was caused by a short circuit, said DSP Khadka. Lekh Bahadur Gurung, a local, had first noticed the fire. He was leaving his home early in the morning to collect fire wood when he saw the fire and alerted the neighbors.
The local administration, the DPO, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army promptly joined hands with the locals to douse the fire. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the neighboring houses.
“The fire could have been more damaging.”
“But timely efforts prevented that,” said the house owner Thakali.
